Retail Designer: Job Description
Design consultants will work with retail clients in selecting their cabinets and countertops for both new home and remodel projects. Design consultants work with clients in assisting them with color and style selections for cabinetry and countertops. This is an exciting experience for our client’s but can also be a little overwhelming. As such, the design consultant is responsible for creating a positive, welcoming and innovative experience for the customer. The design consultant will work at our SLC showroom.
Must have excellent interpersonal/communication skills, be a self-starter and is detail oriented, understands basic computer skills and is proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook). Interior Design degree a plus, but not required. Experience with 20/20 Design is preferred.
Primary Tasks & Responsibilities
Assess client’s needs, preferences, and expectations regarding their lifestyle and specific products for their home.
Advise clients on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and color coordination.
Will go into homes to measure for cabinets and/or countertops.
Ensure that the clients are aware of all options available for product upgrades.
Provide complete product information detailing performance, durability, and maintenance of the client’s selections.
Estimate material requirements and costs.
Accurately record product selections using established department procedures, systems, and practices.
Assists in resolving the client’s problems and/or concerns
Supports all design center processes.
Is knowledgeable and able to communicate the design center experience and the overall client experience.
Strive to become knowledgeable about all products in the showroom – attend all Product Knowledge (“PK') training.
Conduct browse appointments when necessary.
Manage sales and meet the required sales numbers set by management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support personnel or professional personnel.
Design Consultants spend most of their time working with clients in the showroom. They also visit homes to estimate cabinets and/or countertops.
Must be willing to work Saturdays. Individual will work 3-4 days in the showroom including some Saturday’s.
Education & Experience
Experience in construction including cabinet, and countertops
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or manager, clients, customers and the general public
Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain professional working relationships with builders, vendors, subordinates and co-workers
Ability to proactively identify, analyze, address and resolve problem areas, conflicts and issues; strong decision-making skills
Organizational skills to insure adequate tracking systems are utilized to maintain and track all required information associated with the ordering and production process
Working knowledge of internet, inventory, project management, spreadsheet and word process software and order processing systems
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Products
2020 Design experience is preferred.
Overall sales experience in cabinets and counter tops and or related fields.
