Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Operations Engineer - Consultant in West Valley City, Utah

Job Description:

The Advanced Operations Engineer plays a key role in Intermountain Precision Genomics (IPG) Shared Services team to provide cross-functional software strategy and assists in building out publicly facing products. The incumbent contributes to improving the operations engineer processes and takes on other duties as needed.

Scope

The incumbent is expected to coordinate and collaborate through demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought. The incumbent works on extremely complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Job Essentials

  1. Participates in design sessions that translate business requirements into logical and physical system designs for moderate to large and complex custom-development projects.

  2. Maintains an advanced-level understanding of industry application development best practices, tools, programming languages, and techniques. Keeps current with new developments in the information technology industry and may lead development and implementation of organizational and departmental standards and methodologies.

  3. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of software engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. May provide consultation on a variety of moderate to complex projects and is a top-level contributor/specialist.

  4. Provides high-level technical support to project team members.

  5. Codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, and enhances existing programs to ensure that production systems continue to meet user needs.

  6. Provides feedback on code reviews for other project teams software components.

  7. Collaborate with the product team in architecting and creating robust and scalable operations engineering and services

  8. Develop integration plans with IPG workflows

  9. Develop and maintain unit tests and frameworks for operations engineering components

  10. Identify gaps and suggest improvements to the software standards, processes, and practices

  11. Provide feedback on the architecture and technologies

  12. Review and provide feedback on other operations engineers' code and pull requests

  13. Work alongside advanced operations development and CTIS to quickly deliver products following an Agile methodology

  14. Guide technical feasibility and implementation through requirements and design analysis

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, programming, or other technical field. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Four years of equivalent technical experience

Five years of healthcare related software development experience.

  • and -

Three years of healthcare related software testing experience.

  • and -

Two years of experience creating or extending software architecture frameworks.

  • and -

Eight years of professional software development experience.

  • and -

Experience being the technical lead on enterprise-level systems.

  • and -

Experience with various software development methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).

  • and -

Expert knowledge of genomics dev/ops/engineering principles and concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with independently designing, coding and troubleshooting software applications.

  • Development experience in Python, APIs, REST Web Services, SQL Databases, Docker, containerization, integrations between various 3rd party applications.

  • Experience with code versioning systems such as Git.

  • Post-graduate degree(s).

  • Experience with genomics, especially next-generation sequencing technology and applications.

  • Experience with Java/C# languages.

  • Experience with Linux, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure Cloud Services.

  • Experience with ticket software such as Atlassian Jira, ServiceNow.

  • Experience being the technical lead on enterprise-level systems.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with others by effectively communicating, both verbally and in writing.
