VMware Sr. Product Manager - Tanzu Mission Control Platform Interfaces - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Salt Lake City, Utah

The Tanzu Mission Control team at VMware is seeking a Product Manager to help define product strategy and advance our mission to make Kubernetes accessible to any enterprise. The Tanzu Mission Control team is focused on helping customers more easily manage Kubernetes and operate modern, containerized applications across multiple clouds and clusters. You will play a pivotal role defining compelling and competitively differentiated capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understanding our customers deeply, and collaborating with marketing and sales to bring Tanzu Mission Control to market. The team is a fast-paced, startup-like environment where you will have the opportunity to build a new business from the ground up while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

In this role, you will be responsible for defining the product strategy to create powerful, extensible, easy to use interfaces and interface platforms for Tanzu Mission Control. Your scope will include all of the interfaces our customers use: web-based UIs for operators and developers, developer and partner/ISV APIs, and command line interfaces, as well as extensible platforms supporting all these interfaces, enabling internal teams, partners, and customers to build on and integrate with the Tanzu platform. Tanzu Mission Control is a critical element of the VMware Tanzu portfolio (https://cloud.vmware.com/tanzu) , and your impact will enable Tanzu Mission Control to become the central SaaS platform for the entire Tanzu product portfolio and partner ecosystem.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Success in the first three months means charting new territory for Tanzu Mission Control interfaces as extensible platforms and clearly articulating that vision to internal and external stakeholders

  • Success in the first six months means partnering with engineering to deliver robust, extensible API, CLI, and web UI platforms, enabling the other Tanzu products to deliver consistent, congruent experiences across all interfaces.

  • Success in the first year means opening up access to our extensible interface platforms to partners, ISVs, and customers, enabling a rich ecosystem of 3rd party integrations with the Tanzu portfolio, and providing excellent developer and user experiences across all interfaces.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You will own the short- and long-term strategy for platform interfaces in Tanzu Mission Control based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and competition. Experience defining and prioritizing product features in a complex technical context will serve you well.

  • You will collaborate with other Tanzu teams to plan and deliver integrated experiences across the portfolio. An ability to navigate complex decision making and effectively communicate across teams will be critical to success.

  • You will partner with engineering to drive successful product releases. You will be engineering’s connection to our partners, ISVs, and customers and will be responsible for bringing them along for the ride.

  • You will engage frequently with partners, ISVs, and customers to learn about their needs, and occasionally support the sales channel and key customers in a pre- and post-sales capacity.

The hiring manager for this role is Scott Van Woudenberg, Group Product Line Manager, leading Tanzu Mission Control’s SaaS Platform product team. Scott joined VMware from Google, where he helped build Google Compute Engine from launch into a multi-billion dollar business. The Tanzu Mission Control product management team is made up of individuals with diverse backgrounds who are excited about delivering a new SaaS offering to enable Tanzu’s largest customers to build, run, and manage modern applications.
