Kforce Power BI Engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah

Kforce has a client in search of a Power BI Engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah (UT).Summary:This Power BI Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the design, development and implementation of our data models and reports that will be built on Microsoft Azure DevOps data and other potential correlating data sources. The data models must support large qualities of data with the ability to do incremental updates on a scheduled basis. These will then support dashboards and reports as needed. These will include reports around the agile process, status of the requirements, testing and development processes, work traceability reporting, progress trends as well as the quality and maturity of projects and teams across the enterprise.The project intent is to leverage and envision reports from the native Power BI Premium server and reporting features and data warehouse, data set, data consumption functionalities as much as possible, without having to create and manage separate ETL and data warehouse capabilities. Should custom warehousing be required, then this person will help with those capabilities as well.Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage reports, dashboards, datasets in Power BI

  • Expertly use multiple data source types, including Data to create helpful and performant reports and dashboards

  • Skillfully and innovatively use and join complex data objects and concepts to create unique reports as specified by team leadership and stakeholders

  • Rapidly understand the needs and intent of report specifications in order to work rapidly and with least interruption

  • Will work iteratively and demo progress regularly to ensure best outcomes

  • Develop, maintain, and extend schemas, warehouse and ETL process as needed

  • Leverage scripting skills (like Python, SQL*Plus, or PowerShell) in order to move or load data as required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience required

  • 6 years of experience with BI tools, concepts and architecture

  • 6 years of experience with ETL and data warehouse concepts and architecture

  • 6 years of experience with SQL (complex joins, math, aggregations, etc.)

  • 4 years of experience scripting or coding

  • 4 years of experience with star schemas

  • 4 years of experience with Power BI

  • Experience with scripting (python, Unix shell, JavaScript, VBA) and/or Object oriented programming experience

  • Deep experience with report and dashboard development in BI tools like Business Objects and Power BI. Expertise with Power BI required

  • Domain knowledge of data warehouse and business intelligence concepts and architecture

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience with Star Schemas

  • Experience deriving/understand data structures without documented structures

  • Requires in-depth knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, analytical ability, judgment and problem analysis techniques

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Solid organizational, time management and judgment skills

Preferred, helpful & optional skills:

  • Experience with web development (JavaScript, HTML, XML, XSL, CSS)

  • Experience with the Microsoft Azure DevOps data concepts

  • Experience working on Agile team, understands Agile concepts in practice on a team and in an enterprise (Scaled Agile)
